In the beginning, Hiking Hawaii began operating as a small and intimate tour company, showcasing the island of Oʻahu through a local lens. With large, corporate tour companies shuttling buss loads of malihini (visitors) to Oʻahuʻs most popular destinations, Hiking Hawaii made a commitment early on that sustainable and environmentally friendly practices were a top priority. From the use of fuel efficient vehicles, to offering each hiker their own reusable water bottle, Hiking Hawaii quickly emerged as way more than just a tour company.
Following the local tradition of feeding friends and family, Hiking Hawaii followed suit by offering simple, healthy sandwiches and small bites to hikers returning from their trek. Before long, Hiking Hawaii grew into a full fledge cafe, hosting an award-winning menu featuring some of the islandʻs best vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes. Their attention to detail and laid back environment quickly began gaining popularity outside the hiking community and soon earned a loyal group of regular customers who frequented the cafe daily. After 3 years, Hiking Hawaii outgrew their quaint cafe space and relocated to be featured in the Double Tree Alana. There, despite their foot traffic increasing exponentially, they continued to make every salad dressing, sauce, and signature granola from scratch.
Today, Hiking Hawaii is proud of the journey they’ve made in becoming a landmark in Waikīkī. They have upheld their commitment to the environment and to Hawaiʻi by continuing their sustainable practices within the company. They have have continued to join forces within the community by partnering with other environmentally friendly, local businesses including Kahumana, Hawaiian Paradise Coffee, Sky Kombucha, and Baker Dudes. These partners have strengthened Hiking Hawaiiʻs resolve to continue to offer healthy, organic, locally sourced ALOHA!
